This is a half model of the 68 ft Falmouth Pilot Cutter "Pellew", built by Luke Powell as a replica of the Falmouth Pilot Cutter "Vincent of St Mawes" that was originally built in 1853.

I made this half model based on Luke's line drawing from off-cuts off the build of the original boat (you can still see the negative from the rough chainsaw cut of the scarf joint from one of the beam shelves on the block at the top of the first picture below).

First I cut 1cm slices which I then planed down to 7mm. Based on the line drawing I cut out the shapes of each waterline section. The top piece was thicker so I could cut out the the shape of the sheer line. These pieces were aligned and glued together. I then faired the hull using a chisel and a coarse file. Then the hull was sanded and I added the keel, stem, stern, rudder, gunwales and the transom. More sanding and then finished by polishing it with a mix of bees wax and linseed oil.
